Project Information
Nestled in the heart of Halifax’s historic district, HI Halifax Heritage House dates back to 1864 and required a renovation approach that respected its 19th-century character while delivering essential 21st-century performance upgrades. Working closely with Design360 and ZZAP in compliance with strict municipal requirements, the project included comprehensive interior and exterior improvements, structural upgrades, building envelope enhancements, and mechanical and electrical modernization. The building had historical designation and required exterior upgrades to be completed including masonry repointing, window and granite/ limestone stair replacements. Inside, the refreshed space features a shared commercial kitchen, updated reception and common areas, and 13 shared/private guest rooms and washrooms, all designed to enhance comfort and functionality. When HI Halifax reopens, guests and members can look forward to increased capacity (from 61 to 75 beds), more private rooms to meet growing demand, a rooftop terrace for socializing, and modernized guest rooms and common spaces that blend local charm with contemporary comfort.
