Castone Construction partnered with the team at Black Sheep during their relocation from Dresden Row to the former Red Stag space inside Keith’s Brewery on Lower Water Street, Halifax. The project involved a full interior gut and rebuild, including the kitchen, bathrooms, and bar areas. It also added a new rooftop patio, all within the constraints of a historic Halifax structure that required careful planning and problem-solving. Now located within the Halifax Brewery Market, a complex of ironstone and brick warehouses dating back to the early 1800s and arranged around an interior courtyard atrium overlooking Halifax Harbour, Black Sheep’s updated space preserves the building’s character with high ceilings, rustic flooring, and exposed brick and stone. Designed in collaboration with By + Large Designs, the renovation balances heritage details with a refreshed guest experience, flooded with natural light by day through the striking 56-paned dining room window, and transformed into an elegant, moody atmosphere by night.
